Eric waddell

Eric waddellInstructor

Eric has been trading since 1996, and teaches with Online Trading Academy periodically.

has developed various strategies in the equities, Forex and futures markets - recognizing the need to become a complete market speculator in order to help mitigate risk and maximize trading opportunities.

Eric has a very unique teaching style. Rather than simply jumping right into the curriculum,

lays a very logical, coherent foundation for the class which sets the tone for the entire week; touching on the important parts of the class right away in an easy to understand format and then reiterating those points many times throughout the week to ensure that every student "gets it. Eric makes every class not only educational, but fun as well. It is this approach which has garnered praise from

students worldwide and has consistently made him one of the top ranked instructors in the network, according to the student surveys.

What Eric seeks to accomplish with each class is explain seemingly complicated material in a manner that a complete neophyte to trading could understand. Eric always says that "the concepts in your workbooks are the easy part, the hard part is overcoming the psychological aspects of trading. As a result, Eric spends quite a bit of time focusing

classes on trader psychology, risk management and discussing what NOT to do with regards to trading, not just what to do, in an engaging and down to earth manner.

"Really thought Eric did an outstanding job.

demonstrates a great deal of skill delivering the course material and maintaining a good pace throughout the week. I also appreciated

patience with our questions and

sense of humor. Jet B. February 2012

How to use correlations in the forex market

How to use correlations in the forex marketHow to Use Correlations in the Forex Market

This article written by Eric Waddell was originally published in the April 2011 issue of Traders' Magazine .

Eric Waddell has been trading for over ten years and teaches with Online Trading Academy. He has developed various strategies in the equities and Forex markets, which he has shared with students in various parts of the world. Eric truly considers it an honor to instruct with Online Trading Academy and encourages his students to stay in touch with him.

In my last Forex article (TRADERS' 02/2011), I made the argument that there are many similarities between the equities and Forex markets in an attempt to dispel the idea that the Forex markets are ‘mysterious.’ We are essentially seeking to accomplish the same things in the Forex markets as in the equities markets – many times we are just using different terminology. We identify demand and supply zones in both markets using many of the same indicators, and we adhere to the same money management principles.

The Premise: Different Markets Appear to be ‘Connected’

One of the things about the equities markets which we can do to help put the odds in our favour is to look at the correlation between various indices, sectors and stocks. For example, if you are trading stocks, perhaps you will look to see that the SP, DJIA and NASDAQ are all ‘doing the same thing’ (i. e. bouncing out of a demand zone, entering into a supply area, in an uptrend or downtrend, etc. ) and then look to see that the stock you are about to trade is reflecting the movement of the overall indices. The logic for this being that if the stock is moving with the overall market, you are swimming with the current as opposed to against it – thus increasing your probability of success.

XLT OPTIONS TRADING COURSE (ONLINE TRADING ACADEMY)

LEARN A TRADING STYLE THAT CAN STIMULATE YOUR INTELLECT, AS WELL AS YOUR WALLET.

An option is a contract to buy (=call) or sell (=put) an agreed-upon quantity of a specific stock or other asset at a specific price, up until a specific expiration date. Traders can write options on stocks they own, but you can also buy and sell options in the open market with no need to own the underlying stock.

Because the value of options is tied to price movement over a given period of time, options are far more volatile than stocks and price changes are dramatic; a $100 stock that goes to $110 has seen a 10% increase, but this might translate to a 100% increase in an option that allows you to buy at $100 anytime in the next six months. It’s not unreasonable that traders ask themselves, “Why should I spend $100 to buy a stock when I can control it with a $5 or $10 option?”

TWO TYPES OF OPTIONS TRADERS: DIRECTIONAL AND NON-DIRECTIONAL

There are two types of options traders, and we teach strategies for both of them in our Options Trader class. First is the directional trader, who uses technical analysis and market timing to predict whether the market is headed up or down, and then magnifies their bet by trading options vs. the underlying stocks.

Traders who believe the market is headed up can buy calls which allow them to buy a stock at a specific price, no matter how high the price may actually climb. Since this provides a no-risk opportunity to buy a stock and immediately sell it at a higher price, the option rises sharply in value if the stock goes up. Puts are for people who think the market is headed down; no matter how low a stock goes, they can sell it at the strike price according to the contract. Remember: there is no need to actually buy and take delivery of the stock. And, once the expiration date passes, the option is worthless.

Non-directional traders are interested in the net premium they retain after the sale of their options, rather than the price of individual options. A simple example is the straddle, which involves buying a put and a call on the same stock at the price with the same expiration date. Straddles are used when a trader expects dramatic movement but is not sure whether the movement will be up are down. If the stock goes up then the put becomes worthless, and the trader is left with the appreciation of the profit on the call, less the loss of the premium paid for the put.

HOW YOU CAN USE OPTIONS FOR RISK MANAGEMENT

The straddle, just described, is a high-risk strategy. But other options strategies are far more conservative and can be an important part of a trader’s capital-preservation toolkit. For example, if you own a stock and think its value might go down, you can hedge by selling a call option at today’s price. What you earn by writing the option partially offsets your potential loss. Or, if you want to buy a stock but feel it is overvalued at today’s price, you can effectively lower the price by selling a put which commits you to buy if it reaches your desired price. You make money from the put, whether or not you end up owning the stock.

ADVANCED OPTIONS TRADING TACTICS THAT PRODUCE A NON-LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

In an efficient market, you’d expect that the price of options would get cheaper as the clock ticks toward their expiration date. And they do. but the process is not linear and that makes for some additional opportunities which in effect give savvy traders a non-level playing field. At Online Trading Academy, students learn how to buy puts and calls at the exact time that our supply and demand rules tell us they are cheap and about to become expensive.

Part of this calculation is an understanding of “The Greeks”—five different measurements of risk, each of them named after a different letter of the Greek alphabet: Delta, Theta, Gamma, Vega (not actually a Greek letter) and Rho. Online Trading Academy options students learn how to master these complex measurements as they build an options strategy which can meet any investment need—from capital preservation to dramatic upside potential in good markets or bad.

Many traders who become experts at options say they find it intellectually satisfying as well as profitable—like playing a great game of chess. Here is a way you can use your native intelligence in an enjoyable way that can also be very rewarding

A report by the Financial Times said the Justice Department, led by Attorney General Eric Holder, is investigating currency-linked investments for UBS and Barclays.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The Justice Department is expanding an investigation into bank foreign currency practices, according to a published report.

The Financial Times. reported, citing unnamed sources, that the Justice Department is looking into whether Barclays UBS, -0.47% and UBS BCS, -0.44% were selling structured products while at the same time not disclosing profits from currency trades that generated the products’ returns. These products were aimed at so-called sophisticated investors, including Swiss hedge funds.

In November, UBS paid U. S. U. K. and Swiss authorities $799 million along with five other banks to settle allegations they did not have proper controls to prevent traders from trying to rig forex dealing. But the Justice Department was not involved in the settlement and is still investigating Barclays.

According to the report, the UBS and Barclays products under investigations are based on the carry trade, where an investor sells in a low-yielding currency and buys in a higher one.

A strategy by UBS offered a facility for investors to switch their position if markets became volatile, and the Justice Department is examining whether UBS profited from switching positions and if the profits were disclosed to clients.

Barclays had a similar product called the optimized currency carry strategy, the report said.

George soros-top dividend picks

George soros-top dividend picksJavier Hasse

Insider Monkey provides high-quality evidence-based articles to inform individual investors about the intricacies of investing.

George Soros is one of the best-known investors in the world. His fund holds an equity portfolio worth more than $10 billion. Among the fund’s holdings, many pay dividends of more than 1% of their current trading prices. In this article, we will look into five stocks among Soros' top picks that yield dividends of more than 3%.

American Capital Agency Corp. AGNC, +0.68% is an $8.26 billion market cap real estate investment trust that invests exclusively in residential mortgage pass-through securities and collateralized mortgage obligations on a leveraged basis, in which Soros holds a 1.517 million shares position, worth about $32 million. American Capital Agency pays out a dividend yield of 11.79% of the current stock price. On June 26, it paid out its most recent quarterly dividend: $0.65 per share.

In addition to Mr. Soros, other fund managers are profiting from American Capital Agency's dividend yield. David Einhorn 's Greenlight Capital holds 5.238 million shares of the company. This position, worth $112 million, was started over Q1, and has last paid Greenlight Capital more than $3.4 million in dividends.

Second in this list is Mack Cali Realty Corp CLI, +0.18% a $1.9 billion market cap self-administered, self-managed real estate investment trust that has George Soros as its largest hedge fund shareholder. Mr. Soros started a position in this company in the first quarter of 2014, and now holds 1.7 million shares, worth about $35 million. J. Alan Reid, Jr. 's Forward Management also owns 1.477 million shares of Mack Cali Realty Corp, while Chuck Royce holds 918,450 shares.

These and other hedge fund managers and investors have been cashing out a generous dividend yield from Mack Cali Realty Corp. The company has paid a dividend yield of 5.5% of the stock price in the past. However, the dividend was cut to half, and the upcoming payment of $0.15 will account for 2.75% (annualized value) of the current stock price. Despite the decrease, the dividend is still quite generous and could be once again boosted in the future, to meet its average historical yields, which have surpassed 5.44% since 2009.

CenterPoint Energy, Inc. CNP, +0.30% an $11 billion market cap domestic energy delivery company, is another generous dividend payer. Its current yieldstands at 3.51%, and is projected to come in at 3.75% (of the current stockprice) around August.

Soros last declared having upped his stake in CenterPoint Energy by 829%, to 1.737 million shares, worth more than $41 million. He will receive more than $417,000 in dividend on the next payout date. Another fund that will largely profit from its holdings at CenterPoint Energy is Eric W. Mandelblatt 's Soroban Capital Partners. The fund owns 9.2 million shares of the company, worth more than $217 million.

Kraft Foods Group Inc US:KRFT is a company that has recently started paying dividends, and Soros holds 576,133 shares, worth over $32 million. Soros will receive more than $300,000 in dividends in July, as the yield stands at approximately 3.5%.

Other hedge funds betting on this $35.7 billion market cap consumer packaged foods and beverages company, like Phill Gross and Robert Atchinson 's Adage Capital Management and Ken Griffin 's Citadel Investment Group, which own about 2.56 million shares each, will further benefit from this dividend.

The last company in this list is AvalonBay Communities Inc AVB, -0.68% an $18.4 billion market cap REIT engaged in the development, redevelopment, acquisition, ownership and operation of multifamily communities located primarily in high barrier to entry markets of the U. S. Over the last reported quarter, Soros started a position with 257,988 shares of the company, worth roughly $34 million by the end of the quarter. In addition, Jeffrey Furber and David E. Shaw declared slight increases in their stakes at AvalonBay Communities in Q1. They now own 1.51 million shares and 364,054 shares, respectively.

All of these funds stand to gain from AvalonBay Communities' 3.26% dividend yield. The $1.16 per share dividend will be paid on July 15, for stockholders of record as of June 30 2014.

Insider Monkey's small-cap strategy returned 97.6% between September 2012 and June 2014, beating the SP 500 index by more than 53 percentage points. Download a free sample newsletter by clicking the link above.

Trading made simple

Trading made simpleTAKE A TEST DRIVE

Welcome to Trading Made Simple.

Our new TMS Dashboard v900 is here. With our new strategy made for todays market condition.

All training videos, updates, etc, are now in the Members section only

We have developed a modified version of a Forex trading system first employed by eelfranz (Eric) based on the Traders Dynamic Index, now enhanced with the TMS Dashboard and strategies.

But first to those who have been actively trading the last year or two would have noticed that the market has changed and become even more challenging. In the past when Trading Made Simple was first developed and traded by Eric price targets were reached with relative consistency, but in recent times inconsistency has crept in. The only consistency has been the regularity of your stops being hit. There are many reasons for that and not least the more active role central banks are taking to protect and control their currencies.

There has also been a marked decrease in trading volumes which can can cause the problem of sustained drive and momentum to hold trend. Which in turn brings more grief to the retail trader in that the institutional investors still need and do make money with size. So in conditions of light volumes they will chase stops knowing were they are.

You know the feeling stopped out again and then price continues in your trade direction.

You would also have noticed how with news events now there can be extraordinary price spikes.

What is the answer? Adapt to the market conditions and trade in the direction of the major money and institutional investors.

To help us we have now included a modified Guppiesstrategy directly into the TMS Dashboard giving us a more simplified trading signal and enhanced profit potential.

The TMS Dashboard is still super-fast and enables us to scan any number of currency pairs or other instruments provided by your Forex broker utilising MT4. When the TMS Dashboard signals it is as simple as clicking on the pair in the Dashboard to change and see that chart.

The TMS Dashboard contains many filters including spread, slopes of green, red, yellow and purple TMS slopes and our Guppy strategy just to name a few and also now comes with an option to use the Auto Trade Manager which offers various trade exit options.

One chart does it all!

All you need now to keep it simple is an alarm clock.

Billionaire currency trader the man who broke the boe

Billionaire currency trader the man who broke the boeBillionaire Currency Trader: The Man Who Broke the BOE

Article Summary: George Soros netted a profit of over 1 Billion Euro in 1992. Find out more about his strategy and what he is trading today.

Remember Black Wednesday. On September 2 nd. 1992, George Soros became known to history as the “Man who broke the Bank of England.” On that day, George Soros sold short more than $10 billion in Pounds S terling netting a profit of around 1 Billion Euro.

Lets delve further into Soros strategy, philosophy, and his current moves.

Simple economics: Soros trades within boundaries derived by rules. By doing so and by understanding the dynamics between economic giants in Europe, he puts the pieces together. C onsidering interest rates fluctuations and government interventions, Soros detected an emerging bubble.

He borrowed pounds, sold them for De utschmarks; and overflowed the currency market with excess supply of pounds. This led to P ound devaluation.

1. Play by the rules

2. Detect an emerging bubble

How did Soros know?

In September 1992, United Kingdoms government was between two crossroads on whether to raise their interest rates to the levels of the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) or to float its currency. Soros foresaw pound devaluation because: UK would have to withdraw the pound from the EERM because the Bank of England (BOE) would not be able to keep GBP exchange rate above the agreed limit. Therefore, the pound would have to be devalued.

Soros was aware that Deutsche Bundesbank, Germans Federal Bank, favored S terling and Italian lira devaluation. Secondly, high British interest rates would be calamitous towards UKs asset prices. Therefore, prior to Septemb er of 1992, he began borrowing S terling and converting th em into a concoction of French F rancs and Deutschmarks.

On S eptember 16, 1992, the British P ound was forced out of the ERM.

Philosophy

George Soros takes advantage of the power of prediction from a slightly different angle. Soros is a pattern-detector: he looks for patterns of errors. He applies his knowledge regarding a social theory-- Reflexivity —towards his financial strategies. This theory is based on the principle within the Thomas Theorem: “situations that men define as true, become true for them”. In other words, essentially, our decisions are based on the predictions we make ourselves, therefore the predictions become fact.

Analogously, within the arena of economics and financial markets, individuals predictions about the market can possibly lead to prediction-biased decisions and actions. Here George Soros enters; detects an emerging financial bubble; predicts peoples actions; and then he goes against just that.

We all look for patterns to make our executions; however, discovering the minority financial strategy leads to the highest reward.

Soros 2013

Soros latest trade has been b etting against the Japanese Y en. He has made almost $1 Billion on these trades since last year, as he is shorting the Y en. On April 4 th. 2013, after Japan announced monetary easing measures to achieve a 2% inflation target, the Yen fell more than 3 percent against the dollar.

Soros says “ If the Y en starts to fall. which it has done, and people in Japan realize that it is liable to continue, and want to put their money abroad, then the fall may become like an avalanche,” on CNBC.
