Forex for dummies pdf

Forex for dummies pdfForex For Dummies Pdf Understanding Short Selling in the Forex Market

Forex For Dummies Pdf

There are many reasons why investors are unaware of or uncomfortable with short selling. One major reason is because it is counter intuitive. It makes more sense and is more intuitive for people to buy something, hold on to it, and then sell it at a higher price. You buy a stock at $2, hold onto it for 6 months, and then sell it for $3. Lets take an example, you buy a house, you live in it, and then you sell it to buy another house. You can buy a house for investment, and you can rent it out to help pay for the mortgage. You dont live there, but you still own the house. In all of these examples, you buy something, you own it, and then you sell it.

In short selling, you are selling something that you dont own. It is counter intuitive because you cant go around your neighborhood and sell a house that you dont own. Hence, short selling does not make a lot of sense to people. Dont worry, the next example will ease you slowly into the concept.

It is midnight, you are out of milk, and your kid is crying. You run over to your neighbors and ask to borrow a jug of milk. It happens that your neighbor just bought a jug of milk for $5, but he refuses to take your money. Instead, he tells you to buy him another jug of milk later, and you will be even. The next day, you go to the supermarket and the jug of milk is on sale for $3. You buy the jug of milk and return it to your neighbor and save yourself $2 in the process. Basically, you consumed the milk (an asset that isnt own by you), and then you delivered an identical milk back to your neighbor at a later time. This is the concept of short selling. A short sale is the sale of a security that isnt owned by the seller, but that is promised to be delivered. Forex For Dummies Pdf

Say you dont think that Nortel Networks share price should be at $120 per share because the company is not profitable. You can borrow 10 shares from your stockbroker, and sell them for a gain of $1,200. When the stock price drops to $70, you buy back the 10 Nortel shares at $700, and return them to your broker. You borrowed 10 shares from your broker, and then you returned 10 shares, pocketing $500 in the process. If the price of the stock rises, though, you have to buy it back at a higher price, and you lose money.

In Forex trading, you can make money in both up and down markets if you are able to anticipate the up and down trends in the market. If you believe that the currency pair is going up, you buy at the low price and then sell at the high price. Alternatively, if you believe that the currency pair is going down, you sell at the high price and then buy at the low price to recover. In real time Forex trading, the rates of the currencies can change at any time. For instance, the quotes accessible for a specific currency pair can move upwards or fall down within a blink of an eye. This forces the investors to be extremely flexible and to go with the trend. Whereas, in the stock market a bull run can last as long as several years; hence, it is difficult to switch your thinking from a bull to a bear market.

Even though you have tools of short selling and long buying to in the foreign currency market, Forex trading is extremely difficult to master and more than 95% of traders lose their money. Understand that any method or software that boasts a 300% return on investment will also contain a minus 300% drawdown. Ask the right questions before purchasing or renting any currency trading software. Forex For Dummies Pdf

Why do dealers gun for stops

Why do dealers gun for stopsWhy do dealers gun for stops?

Mark asks, why do dealers gun for stops, that doesnt seem very nice to me?. Fair point and fair question Mark which we can add to our Q and A section.

Lets look at an example of an interbank dealer who is looking at his order book and sees stop-loss orders to sell 200 million EUR/USD at rates below 1.3700 down to 1.3690. The current rate is 1.3730 say. He has some options:

1. He can do nothing. He waits until the market breaks below 1.3700 and then he starts selling. The danger with taking this course of action is that other dealers have similar order boards and the market gets fast below the level. The customers might be filled 10 pips or more below their stipulated level and they would not be happy. Plus the dealer doesnt earn anything from this.

2. He sells 20 at 1.3730. The market starts drifting lower so he sells another 20 (if the market goes up he cuts the 20 short position for a small loss). He may buy 10 back but keep himself 20 or 30 short. Lets say his average entry rate for the 30 short is at 1.3730. When the market breaks below 1.3710, he sells another 30 and then he sells 100 at 1.3700 to ensure that the market trades at a rate below 1.3700. Then he sells the balance of the orders. He will have sold 200 EUR/USD at an average rate of 1.3706 say. He will fill the stop-loss sell orders on average at 1.3696, with each customer being filled at their stipulated level. The dealer will have ensured that the customers cannot complain about slippage and at the same time hell have earned $200,000.

All dealers will follow the second course of action which in essence means that all stops are targeted.

There is sometimes a downside risk in that the dealer may sell 100 EUR/USD but the market suddenly stalls at 1.3700 due to a barrier or a big Sovereign or corporate buyer. If this happens the dealer must act very quickly to start covering his shorts before the market races higher.

Those swords are actually made by Hanwei (a company own and operated by Paul Chen) in China. They use one of the best material. swedish powder steel. I own the Tiger katana (Bugei doesn't have it anymore) and teh L6 Bainite by Howard Clark (HC makes the custom lines).

The Tiger has seen a lot of action. I cut heavy target at least once a week with it. It is a great sword for the money.

The Crane is one of their thinner/lighter sword. If you want somethign hefty, go with the Bamboo katana or the Samurai katana.

They are considered good swords for practicing kata/tameshigiri.

Anti-money laundering(aml)source tool for broker-dealers

Anti-money laundering(aml)source tool for broker-dealersAnti-Money Laundering (AML) Source Tool for Broker-Dealers

Date: June 20, 2012

This research guide, or source tool, is a compilation of key AML laws, rules, orders, and guidance applicable to broker-dealers. Several statutory and regulatory provisions, and related rules of the securities self-regulatory organizations (SROs), impose AML obligations on broker-dealers. A wealth of related AML guidance materials is also available. To aid research efforts into AML requirements and to assist broker-dealers with AML compliance, this source tool organizes key AML compliance materials and provides related source information.

When using this research tool or guide, you should keep the following in mind:

First, securities firms are responsible for complying with all AML requirements to which they are subject. Although this research guide summarizes some of the key AML obligations that are applicable to broker-dealers, it is not comprehensive. You should not rely on the summary information provided, but should refer to the relevant statutes, rules, orders, and interpretations.

Second, AML laws, rules, and orders are subject to change and may change quickly. Statutes that include AML-related provisions may be amended from time to time, and new statutes may be enacted which include AML-related provisions. The information summarized in this guide is current as of May 1, 2012. In addition, please note that in July 2007, the SEC approved the establishment of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). FINRA consolidated the former NASD and the member regulation, enforcement, and arbitration operations of NYSE Regulation. The Source Tool reflects the historical issuance of AML rules and guidance by the NASD and NYSE as well as new rules and guidance issued by FINRA.

Finally, you will find a list of telephone numbers and useful websites at the end of this guide. If you have questions concerning the meaning, application, or status of a particular law, rule, order, or guidance, you should consult with an attorney experienced in the areas covered by this guide.

This compilation was prepared by staff in the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE), Securities and Exchange Commission. The Securities and Exchange Commission, as a matter of policy, disclaims responsibility for any private publication or statement by any of its employees. The views expressed in this document are those of the staff and do not necessarily represent the views of the Commission, or other Commission staff.

A final farewell to Mumbai.

Wednesday, August 10th

Im so bummed! I went to have top made that is to be worn under my sari. They cant have it made by Friday. Its my own fault for not ordering it sooner.

Thursday, August 11

I did some marketing videos today at the center. It was actually pretty fun. It was just me standing there talking about different trading subjects. Brandon was in the office next door and as they were counting down, he did his best to make me laugh. It worked. They had to start over. When we got back to the apartment, Priya had made an awesome home cooked meal for all of us. It was delicious! The three of us drank some champagne and played India Monopoly. So funinstead of Boradwalk and Park Place they have Mumbai and Delhi.

Friday, August 12

I cant believe this is my last day! Priya, Brandon, Charmaine and I went to the Tasting Room for dinner. It was lovely. Well, except for Priyas fish. I think it made her sick. Brandon has to work in the morning so Charmaine and I hit the Blue Frog for a few drinks. Its a really fun night club.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

My last day. I went by the center to say goodbye to everyone. I feel so blessed to know the people Ive met here. They are absolutely amazing. Their kindness and hospitality go above and beyond. I will miss my new friends, their warm greetings, and contagious smiles. I will also miss the 9:30 am Indian breakfasts and seeing all the beautiful kurtas.

This evening Brandon and I went to the pharmacy to get some things for Priya; shes been unwell. They are walk-up drug stores and prescriptions are not required. On our way I noticed children playing cricket in the open spaces between buildings while one man rested on top of a wagon. Others were busy working; some sat on the streets and chatted with one another. At one shop a man had a knife sharpener powered by a bicycle. They work hard in conditions unacceptable to us, but they dont know any other way. They seem happy.

We walked through the streets sampling various foods and drink along the way. We shared an Almond Masala Milk, unpasteurized milk with almonds floating in it. It was quite good. The woman behind the counter had a broad smile, every other tooth missing. Her eyes told her story; she was happy that we were there. Several proprietors insisted that we taste their foods. The people were delighted to offer things to us. One man asked me to take his picture. I was honored to do so.

I had walked through this area before, but that day I looked and couldnt see. There is so much here. I was looking on the surface and failed to see the true beauty which only lies in the heart. Mumbai has heartits people.

I dont think I am saying goodbye, but maybe see you later.
